It is worth noting that Alan Ayckbourn considers Alain Resnais's film adaptation of Private Fears In Public Places (or Coeurs) as the finest screen adaptation of his plays and it is undoubtedly his favourite - followed closely by Resnais's adaptation of Smoking / No Smoking (a two film adaptation of the Intimate Exchanges play cycle which maintains the play's variable plot line structure and multiple different endings from a single origin scene).
